Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing a therapist involves finding chemistry and trust with that person.
I try to go above and beyond for my clients, and strive to make their experience as comfortable as possible. Take a look at some answers to some FAQs.
What kinds of issues to people seek therapy for?
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons including feeling depressed, anxious, worried, angry, or empty. People also might want help to change behaviors that are troubling them. Some people seek therapy because they have a life goal that has not yet been reached and they are ready to explore their barriers.
What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is based on Carl Rogers' Person-Centered Therapy. Rogers believed that each client is the expert on their own experiences. I prefer to let the client guide the session once we get established. I believe in personal empowerment and self-determination, so I will support you on whatever you'd like to work on.
I'll never ask a client to talk about something that they're not ready to get into!
What can I expect during the first session?
We'll talk about the concern(s) that brought you to see me and I'll review the answers you provided on the intake questionnaire. I might ask a little about your living situation and job and any supports you have in place. You can share on a level that feels comfortable for you.
How long does a session last?
Each session lasts about 53 minutes. Most people see their therapist once a week for consistent progress to be made, but others may come to therapy twice a month, or even once a month.
